Exam prep hosted by Sanlam
The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted so many areas of daily life – no less so than education - with learners who have to take their final exams having missed quite a bit of school during the early days of the hard lockdown.
Sanlam recognized this challenge and different Sanlam businesses rose to the occasion to initiate talks with the Gauteng Department of Education on how to solve this .
This resulted in a 2-session full day virtual workshop for selected schools in Soweto to enable matric learners to prepare for English First additional language and Math Core before the final exams that is starting soon.
The workshop was hosted by Sanlam Trust Beneficiary supported by Sanlam Sky, Sanlam SPF, Sanlam Investments, Santam and the Sanlam Group .
Madi Carstens, national sales head of the STBF says, “We are in the business to ensure that our beneficiaries are equipped to enter the world with a solid footing by managing their funds well – but we also need to look after their educational well- being which will enable them to pass matric, study further and reach their full potential.”
This Summer school exam preparation enabled 11 schools and more than 370 Learners to virtually connect and listen to exam tips from Mr. Stephen Duma the Math Core teacher, and Ms. Kesaobaka Raleie the English first additional language.
From a Sanlam Point of view, says Madi, “This was originally aimed at our STBF beneficiaries, but the idea grew, and after proper approvals, Sanlam and the Department of Education invited nominated Math and English learners for this first initiative in Soweto. In this small way, we hope that we have given these youngsters a boost for the future.”
