Leading industry body invites the local retirement sector to its online Thought Leadership Imbizo to be held on the 1st June. Could the considerable resources to be found in the local retirement sector contribute significantly to the economy, upliftment and society at large where leveraged sustainably and safely and in member interests? The COVID 19 pandemic has put a spotlight on the need for positive change. South Africans are all impacted by the pandemic, climate and ecological crises, gender inequity, social injustice, a struggling economy and unemployment. How should or could the retirement sector bring meaningful and practical change? IRFA’s Thought Leadership Imbizo will pose these questions and encourage collaboration amongst industry players to be part of the solution. According to Geraldine Fowler, the President of the Institute “the primary objectives of the Imbizo are to identify themes and sector-based projects which IRFA will champion with partners from the retirement sector as well as to harness the power of collaboration with win-win projects to benefit all sector stakeholders and the economy at large.” She continues “the Imbizo is a call to action to key role players by the Institute as well as a partnering initiative in bringing the resources of the sector into play.” The Imbizo will feature panel discussions driven by thought leaders, regulatory and governmental representatives and subject matter experts on the following topics:-
The intersection of alternative investments and environmental, social and governance principles and the increasing use of purpose driven outcomes
Women in Finance and the World economy: The often overlooked role of women in change, how to unlock this powerful force in contributing significantly to economic development
Infrastructural investments for retirement funds
Accelerating innovation in investment in education
The final session will be to leverage the information presented to set partnership goals.
Fowler continues, “IRFA, as the leading industry body should lead the charge in harnessing the power of the retirement sector for the greater good. IRFA sees its mandate as accessing and providing the knowledge and uncovering and harnessing the resources to achieve societal and economic change.”
In opening the online event to the greater retirement sector for input and discussion Fowler concludes “ IRFA has built credible relationships and partnerships over the years which enables it to bring thought leaders, government and leading industry players together to achieve this and IRFA will actively partner and collaborate on change initiatives identified at the Imbizo.”
